What a week. We have just come back from a very hectic week in Scotland. We went for a family wedding.
This meant leaving the house at midnight last Saturday and Driving through the night, or Rather LSP driving through the night as I dont drive. I am going to have to pass my test as the 600 mile drive is getting to much to do in one trip in the middle of the night.
We leave at midnight so that the roads are clear, we do all the boring bits in the dark and get to the lakes for dawn. We had coffee at Tebay Services, the best services run by Westmorland farm shops.
We arrived at the in laws in time for lunch. some broth and icecream. yum. lots of chatter and catching up. It was nice to have some time together. We then hauled ourselves up to LSP's friends who had kindly given us their house for the week in Inverness. So on Sunday night we crashed out at 7pm!
Monday, off to visit relatives. lovely baby (who is not much of a baby any more) but is such a gorgeous and clever little girl. Who had us entertained for ages. It is horrid that we live so far away from Scotland and we cannot see family more often.
Tuesday, the wedding. An amazing wedding. small and beautiful, a very different ceremony, which included the exchanging of rings and a handfasting. After the ceremony we went back to their cottage and had a fish supper. people had flown and driven in from all over. The groom parents had flown in from Vienna. They married in an amazing place a small temple at Belladrum. As well as meeting the grooms family we met their friends including the amazing highland Fairy who designs and makes the most amazing clothes. Also the wonderful hunting and shooting Cyril, now the talk of shooting deer as well as the fields being full of baby lambs and calves was to Much for LSP who has now turned veggie.
Wednesday, Older daughter and younger daughter had to fly home. LSP's parents joined us to see the children off. The grooms parents were also flying back to Vienna. The grooms parents flight was at the same time. Now they have a reasonable command of English but it is their 3rd language. My in Law's have very good Scottish. All I can say is it lead to an interesting lunch. The girls flew back safely as did the grooms parents. We then went back to the house with my in'laws for the afternoon.
Thursday. Meeting up with a friend. Now Although we were 600 miles form home, She drove the other 100 miles to meet us just north of Inverness. It is a special friend that will drive 200 miles for a chat and some lunch.
Friday, the long drive home. 600 miles in the blazing sun. Not much shopping. one trip to Dingwall then stopping of at the house of Bruar and Tebay.
The Freezer and cupboard are stocked with scottish goodies, teacakes, macaroons, oatcakes, etc and for me, black pudding, white pudding, haggis and venison.
There were many friends who we did not get to see. .. next time.
