Nurse for the day.

Today I Have been a nurse. Not for my partner, or my kids but for the dog.

At 3am this morning she wake us up as she is hot, panting and very unsettled. So we went to the vet this morning . She is hot and lethargic and so we have to keep an eye on her for the next 24 hours and if she does not perk up, to go back. She is not often unwell, Despite needing injections for her arthritis, we are not often at the vet with her. So today, I have been doing just that.

The weekend was quiet but still busy, Yesterday Morning we awoke to the most amazing sunrise.

 I noticed we had new neighbours.

They are so lovely.

While I was in the garden looking at what we could do in this coming year. I heard a scream. At the same time I saw a bird fly out from a window ledge... I can only presume that the 2 events were linked as they appeared to have come from the same place. I did smile at the thought of someone innocently showering and a bird looking on.

The rest of yesterday was spent whipping around town collecting children, shopping etc. In the evening we went to see The Best Exotic Marigold hotel. The was the 2nd film we had seen last week. The first one being "The Artist" Now lots of people have raved about The Artist. YD really wanted to see it. I was keen and LSP came along reluctantly. Well, who'd have thought it. LSP loved it and I fell asleep. (yes properly with snoring).  It just did not do it for me.

Unlike The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, It was fantastic. At times it was a bit cliche but overall a fab film with some great stories. One thing I liked was the wrinkles.

Yes these people are ageing and they look beautiful. Dame Judi and Maggie Smith look so devine, They are a real advertisement for how women are supposed to look as we age. No facelists, skin peels or botox.

Well LSP is home now. complete with a cold. This was our lab this morning and now she is on the rug at home.

It must be love.......

Today is St Valentines Day. LSP and I took the day off just to have some time together.

No housework, no sorting, no rushing, no stress, no work, no knitting, no sewing, no gardening, no decorating, no shopping, no visiting.

There are 1001 jobs on my list of things to do but today we hit the pause button.....

We just wanted some time to be, to talk, to read, to watch movies, to play games, to have a long lunch in the sitting room whilst sat on the sofa, to enjoy some chocolates, to have a nice slow cooked dinner together.....

Sitting in an overcrowded bistro with staff who do not want to be there is not my idea of a fab way to spend an hour of hour valentines day.

we caught 2 fab movies this afternoon,

Great 1944 movie which includes a murder, obsession and unrequited love. As a bonus Vincent Price (who always adds something great to a movie). Plot was good but included some great hats...followed by,

Another great afternoon flick, with Nice swooshy dresses..........great few hours spent on comfy sofa's with plenty of cushions and thick woolly throws.....mmmm

Today I saw (but did not buy) one of my favourite films out on DVD and all packaged for Valentines day.

Brief Encounter. 

The film is so far removed from its simple description....

"Meeting a stranger in a railway station, a woman is tempted to cheat on her husband".

"I love you, Laura. I shall love you until the end of my life. I can't look at you now cause I know something. I know that this is the beginning of the end. Not the end of my loving you but the end of our being together. But not quite yet, darling. Please. Not quite yet. "

I can just get lost in the film, 86 minutes of wonderful middle class repression.

There is no sex, no violence, no special effects.

Only 8 main actors with another 5 uncredited (including Irene Handl,  who was the gran in Metal Mickey)

Penned by Noel Coward with wonderful acting by Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard.

 It has tension, intrigue, passion, humour and sadness.



People are divided about the ending, I think it is happy a happy ending, Laura and Alec have the perfect romance, it will never go sour, it will never wither, Love is easy but marriages are hard work. Both are married and have children. If they had made the break from their partners it would never have been the same.

The last words from Fred (Laura's husband) are lovely.

"You've been a long way away.

Thank you for coming back to me."
