Back to work on Monday!!! I am actually looking forward to it!! (yes really all you cynics).
What I am also looking forward to is getting back into the routine of being back at work......
I am now wonderfully well rested and re-energised but also well fed............
There has been to much snacking going on, and I don't mean celery!! At work I can be steadfast & resist most temptations, biscuits, cakes, chocolate etc, but at home it is a different story.
I am far to close to the biscuit tin, bread bin and toaster.....mmmm toast....(wipes the toast and marmite crumbs from her blouse).
At home my eating routine has gone to pot but also my gym routine :(
So tomorrow we will be off to the gym for an hour or so as well as taking in some geocaching....
an early night ready for my early start,
I will let you know how I get on!!!!!!

ex libris........
something very peculiar has happened to me.............................. I have started to empty the hidden parts of the house!!
My long suffering partner has put up with my hoarding for many years!! But now I have started to empty the shelves and cupboards, wardrobes and loft (of my own volition).
I have sent sacks of unloved, ill fitting and ill advised clothes to the charity shop!!!
I have now started on the book collection!
The books show the journey of our lives, the different fads and phases as well as the journey I had in my education. However, they are now just dust gatherer's, I have to admit that I have not looked at some of them in years and will not! So I am now faced with the dilemma of sifting through the collection and take it down to the ones which are either beautiful or useful.
We need to go from this ....................................................................................................................
To something more like this........................................................................................................
ok.... maybe a little bit smaller and a bit less grand!!

Ladies Mantle
Although our house is pretty much a work in progress.... One area that is complete (nearly) is the main bedroom.
I love the fireplace including its mantle...... It is the girliest place in the house ...
I adore flowers especially Roses, what else can you fill a fireplace with.
Across the Mantle, we have some special treats.
oops need to polish the mirror!
I love the mix of old and new. My bottles of perfume, tealight holders which look amazing in the dark, vase for my pins and brushes, vintage rose prints and postcard and a lovely old box...
The box is handmade to look like a row of tiny books, inside it contains my makeup!! (and a secret compartment)
A wonderful surprise was the print of the roses, it was in a frame that my daughter bought for £1, she only needed the frame and gave me the prints.
The vintage postcard is of Godshill on the Isle of Wight and is 100 years old and was a fab Christmas pressie.
Currently this is my favourite part of the house!!!

village life...
Village life.
I love living in a village, I have been fortunate that I have spent most of my life living in them.
You can't beat looking over the back fence and gazing over fields and saying good morning to the horses.
Where we live now is not my village of origin.
I grew up in oxfordshire in a typical chocolate box village.
My family have lived there for over 100 years, (yes we are relative newcomers)
Here is my great grand father and 2 of my great uncles in the village football team.

My family have lived there for over 100 years, (yes we are relative newcomers)
Here is my great grand father and 2 of my great uncles in the village football team.
My great grandfather is sitting to the left of the football (1929)
It was traditional in all ways, it had churches, pub, shop and school.
As pretty as it is there is one thing I do not miss......The gossip!!
Traditionally in small villages everyone knows everyone else and their business. Not a day would go by without my mum or nan exchanging information on who was doing what with whom and what they thought about it! It did not have to be anything big, more Archers than Eastenders! If someone walked past the house it would be;
" I wonder where they are going? or I wonder where they have been? John's bought a new suit, I wonder where he is going. the Jones's are getting a bigger car I wonder if there is a baby on the way? "
"Andrew's late going down to the allotment, Jean's changed her washing powder, have you seen the girl that the Thompson lad is courting..........."
Even now, when I go to visit my Nan I get an update on the major events, births marriages and deaths of people I knew or should remember. My Nan and other villagers can remember 60+ years worth of knowledge and gossip about those around them. Generations worth of information and stories. many families have remained in the village for 3-4-5-6-7-8+ generations (we only have 4) the knowledge of the village remained as a living history, it was not all salacious gossip. How families were interconnected who had lived at what house and when and how families had changed etc.
That's all going now, in the village where my Nan lives she no longer knows everyone who lives there, local people cannot afford to buy houses. Farms are becoming more industrialised and no longer need as many workers. Rental properties are being rented by families outside of the village.
Now we don't talk about our neighbours, because we don't know them. As village life has declined over the past 50 years so the popularity of soap opera's has increased. We can now live vicariously through the experiences of those on TV not just our neighbours.
However you cannot gossip about the plot of the Archer's or Emmerdale, it all happens in front of you. Instead we gossip about celebrities, instead of looking out of the window we are looking through the pages of the Hello and Ok.
If we want human tragedy we turn to Jeremy Kyle or Take a Break magazine....
We still do talk with one another, but instead of being at the school gate or the village shop we do it via facebook or twitter, we don't phone we text.
We all still live in villages we just construct them differently, I am lucky that I still have horses at my gate...

Hats On!!
Hats are wonderful things, I love them in summer and winter and would love to wear one all of the time.
I always wear a hat to church.
I wished it was still commonplace for people to wear hats all the time.
However the choice now is very limited, there are a very limited amount of styles. All formal hats and facinators are very showy ( I should know I have worn some outrageous ones).
I have a stock rotation of 3 winter baker boy hats with some good old wolly ones for out on walks.
In the summer I have trilby hats, fishing hats and straw hats.
However following a trip to a recent antiques market I discovered a liking for 40's and 50's styles, especially the small half bonnets and caplets.
So for my next hats I have decided to look back. I am off to a wedding in the spring and so looked to eBay.
I had forgotten how addictive it is, just the urge to go a little bit higher and another little bit and before you know it the budget has gone....
I missed out on a few nice one's but am now the proud owner of a vintage green hat!
I just need to add the dress, bag, shoes and gloves!!

Christmas is coming!!
Christmas is on its way........
I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!
Its a pleasure not a chore, I love everything about it. Baking cooking, wrapping, decorating and shopping.
My Christmas starts when the last one finishes. I manage to do 80% of my Christmas shopping in the sales. This includes wrapping paper and cards.
I also manage to pick up a few more decorations as well.
I have to admit it, I am obsessed with Christmas decorations, I do not believe you can have to many although my Family may disagree with that.
Decorating the house takes me 2 days, 1 day for the sitting room and 1 day for the dinning room. Each room has its own colour scheme. the day will start with a deep clean and then the arrangement of the ornaments and the decorating of the tree's.
I am horrible and decorating the house is what I look forward to each year and no one else gets a look in.
Why am I thinking Christmas now? We are having a sort out and clearing out all of the cupboards, its like a pre-Christmas spring clean and we do it every year. We have taken 2 sacks down to the charity shop of clothes and other not needed items.
All that is needed now is to book the chimney sweep and order some logs!!!

Salad Days!!
Soup or Salad?
Soup or Salad is the question I ask my partner each evening, that are our choices for lunch the next day and will be for the next 12 months.
So far I have lost 6lb so I am now 18st. My target is in 12 months time I will be 12 stone. This equates to 1/2 stone per month loss which is quite achievable. I will not get as boring as to blog each lb lost, but will let you know the major milestones.
This week I have mainly been eating Salad, ham salad, fish salad, egg salad chicken salad. etc.
Today was my favourite so far, chicken and grape Salad, yum.
Take 1/2 bag salad leaves,
1/4 cucumber sliced,
1/2 green pepper sliced,
20 grapes.
place in a lidded lunch box.
mix 5ml olive oil and 10ml balsamic vinegar, pour over the salad, place the lid on and give it a good shake.
Then add 2 slices of thick sliced roast chicken.
And enjoy.....
Tomorrow....Soup!
2 onions,
1/4 swede
2 leeks
4 carrots
4 potato's
10ml cooking oil
1 1/2 pints veg stock.
season to taste.
Dice veg finely,
first add onions and start to lightly brown, then swede and carrot, keep stirring as you don't want the veg to burn just colour, then add the potato's and leek, fry for 2 more minutes add the stock, cover and cook for 20 minutes.
The soup can be served 3 ways.
1 as a broth with the whole pieces of veg with a stock sauce.
2 as a thicker soup, by using a potato masher to break up the veg.
3 as a thick soup by blending the veg together.
Whilst I have been diligently eating my way through fields of greens. I have been creating some very yummy treats. 2 old fashioned favourites.
1st bread pudding. I baked a large bread pudding with banana and sultana's.
I had completed a punishing aerobics class and had made chicken and veg for tea. I then found myself stood over the hob, stirring a pot of melted chocolate and adding fruit and biscuits.
It was hard but I managed to make it without eating any of it. !!
oh and the recipe's for these will be in my forth coming cookery book. !!!
(pictures this week were from Internet not my camera)
